2006 OHS Garden Tours: Riek van den Burg's Garden June 18, 2006

Riek van den Burg's garden and Fairmont Park.

The tour begins at Riek's mainly shady garden, designed as a path garden with perennials on both sides with a gate at the end leading to a path up the hill and into Fairmont Park. This area has been "guerrilla gardened" by Riek and Michael Mazur, whose efforts won a special Trillium Award for Community Gardening two years ago. Follow the signs past the perennial beds in the park with statuary (note the children's garden) and circle back to Kinnear St. Other gardens along the dead end street are available for viewing as well (watch for the whirlygigs in front, at the sidewalk). A donation to support the public gardens would always be appreciated.

Thanks to Angela Snowdon for these pictures and to Reik Van den Burg for opening her garden to OHS members.
