2008 Garden Tour - Jul 17, 2008 Thanks to Angela Snowdon for these photos. OHS Garden Tour- Thursday, July 17th, 5 pm - 8 pm Ann FrederkingThe happy coincidence of a friend's gift of an unknown plant and the encroaching canopy of shade trees around her property began what Ann calls her “hostaholism.” This delightful disease has led her over the years to scour hosta websites, to buy, trade, and plant hostas, and has resulted in an amazing collection of 106 varieties. She specializes in mini, small, and medium-sized varieties (with some notable exceptions), due to space restrictions of her city lot, but she is still hunting for new varieties and opening new beds. Ann’s hosta collection to the end of 2007 can be seen on her website: http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Ann/Ann_hostas.html
Ray JacynaRay has built over the years a most compact and eclectic garden. His non-stop gardening activities fill his driveway with blooming containers and nearly every square inch of his property with an impressive variety of plants for shade and sun. He loves shrubs and has persuaded magnolias, rhododendrons, azaleas, and perennial hibiscus to bloom for him as well as an eastern redbud (grown from seed). This small urban garden demonstrates the richness attainable by intensive underplanting and judicious pruning (and narrow garden paths!).
