George Vanier School Community Gardening Project

Web

By: Jean Stalker print friendly version Georges Vanier Catholic School (

Georges Vanier Catholic School (Kanata)
opened its doors in 1967.

After 37 years, the two courtyard gardens, one
at the entrance, and the other outside the library,
were in dire need of rejuvenation.

The parents' association appealed to the OHS
for help. The OHS asked Jennifer Mix and Kendra
Hunter to coordinate.

An appeal went out to the members and the plants
came rolling in, in bags and boxes.

A dauntless force of parents, children, and
OHS members gathered.

We consulted.

We dug.

We planted.

We watered.

We mulched.

We prayed.

Eventually, it all came together.

The project ended in a party in the library courtyard.

The school marked the achievement with a pair of plaques.

We can hardly wait to see how the gardens look
next year.
