The President's Message
AT THE BEGINNING of my second term as your President, I fully appreciate the honour bestowed upon me for another year and trust that our Society will be as successful in 1956 as it was in 1955.
It would be difficult indeed, to place a sufficiently high estimate to the credit of those who have guided the Horticultural Society's contribution in community service in gardening and related fields during the sixty odd years, and whose endeavours have made their mark on the lives of citizens of our fair city during this period of the city's growth.
Appreciation is also due to those who presently assist the elected Officers of this Society in their efforts to promote better Ottawa homes and gardens; to our Patron; to the Honorary Officers and consultants; to our governments on all three levels and to city businessmen and private citizens whose donations in money and in kind permit us to extend our services and so raise the value of our own donations of time, thought and talent.
If you, dear members, are aware of what has been done and is being done, then you can assist in these efforts and make the task of leadership lighter by sharing in them. You may suggest some untried innovation; bring a new member; enter in a class or two at one of our .flower shows; attend a meeting and ask some questions; donate a prize; give of your acquired knowledge to a neighbour or a friend - in all these ways we can increase the Society's value to the community.
-IN APPRECIATION.
J. H. COWAN, President.
