President's Message - 1985
Yearbook 1985 page 1 By: John Soar Back to the web versionIt was with some trepidation that I took on the role of President. I need not have worried. Isabel Kindle handed over a Society in good shape, a capable and helpful Board of Directors kept me on the right track, and the members participated and helped so that, all in all, I feel able to report that 1984 was a good year for the Society. We increased our exhibits in the shows. We increased our public planting activity. We hosted the No. 2 District Meeting. We did more community work. We are involved in providing planning and working expertise in some special projects. We had a full program. We made available to members at good prices Chrysanthemums, miniature roses and bulbs. Thank you for your help and participation.
In 1985 I hope we can do more of the same. I think you will agree that we have a good program laid out. There will be even more work to do in the public planting and community activities. It would be very satisfactory if we could increase the number of exhibits in all shows again.
There are two things that I shall be working on particularly in 1985. The first is to try to interest more members in attending the meetings of the Society. I think that we must be failing somehow in making people aware of the program. The second is to try to enlarge the circle of people involved in public planting, etc. Once again I think we have to do more to make the members aware of the opportunity to put in a bit of work to further the objectives of the Society. I know from personal experience that it is not time consuming once the impetus to start has been generated. We shall try to call on a wider group in 1985.
The Ontario Horticultural Association Convention will be held this year in June at Windsor. Our own Maurice Marshall is President so it will be a good and enjoyable program. I would encourage as many members as are able to get down to Windsor to support Maurice and his Convention.
May I wish you all great success and enjoyment in your horticultural affairs in 1985.
