PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
To continue the growth and success of our vintage Ottawa Horticultural Society, the OHS entered the computer age in 1995. We were the first horticultural society in Ontario to enter our programs on the Internet. The easily readable format of our newsletter was produced on computer. Our computerized list of library books makes it easier for members to find and request gardening topics about which they wish to learn. Of course, the wonderful team that puts together this yearbook led the way, computerizing the yearbook several years ago.
The historical significance of our Society was underlined this year when two trophies, one dating from 1917, were returned and rededicated for presentation.
To keep up with the busy 1990s, the flower show committee, in consultation with the exhibitors, has made major changes to the 1996 flower show schedules. These improvements reflect today's gardens and the high quality of our decorative class entries. As always, novice classes remain to encourage new exhibitors. In 1996, for the first time, the OHS and the Nepean Horticultural Society will run a joint Tulip Show. Please put May 25 on your calendar as a must.
The Society is proud to honour three outstanding members, Dr. Oswald and Mrs. Virginia Peck, and Mrs. Arlene Gustafson, as honorary life members. Congratulations! What a pleasure it continues to be to work with you.
The horticultural knowledge within our Society continues to grow. Two of our own members will make presentations at our monthly meetings this year. All members will benefit from the excellent program outlined in this yearbook. Your yearbook is the source for all information on our meetings and flower shows. Please keep it near at hand.
Here's to wonderful gardening inside and out for 1996!
