President's Message - 1998

Yearbook 1998 page 2

By: Josee De Menezes Back to the web version

The last year has been a busy one. Between a move and renovations, I barely saw my garden. But I have heard stories of some of your gardens and I have dreamed of how to improve mine.

The Ottawa Horticultural Society is a gathering of friends who talk about life and gardening and who share experiences and tips. And this last year was one more example of the wonderful personas of the Gardener.

We heard interesting speakers and enjoyed beautiful flower shows. Some of us participated in two nice outings and the September garden tour crowned our glorious summer. Successful fundraising activities included the plant sales at the indoor garden show, the May auction and the compost sale.

Sadly, two of our longtime and very active members have moved away this year. Anne Ginns, who has guided many of us around the different house plants at the sales table at the indoor garden show, is now in British Columbia. Callie Basham, who earlier this year won a district award for her exceptional contribution to horticulture, is in Vienna for the next few years. We will miss both of them. May their gardens be grand.

It is the participation, the generosity and the enthusiasm of you, our members, that make the Society so special. If, in looking at the list of committees and events of the year, you would like to be a part of them or simply want to bring forward suggestions, do not hesitate to contact me or the head of the committee concerned.

Thank you for this wonderful year.

I hope the next one will bring you lots of joy, friendship and a garden full of nice surprises.
