President's Message - 1936

Yearbook 1936 page 4

By: Henry E. Searle print friendly version

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

With new hope and aspirations we are entering another year which, I trust, from a Horticultural standpoint, will be a most prosperous one. Ottawa, the Capital city of the Dominion, known by thousands of tourists for its beautiful parks, driveways, and gardens, has a reputation second to none in North America. In order to live up to this reputation it behooves .all members of this Society to do his or her utmost to increase interest in the organization. Your President and Executive would appreciate the co-operation of all members, and would urge the necessity of their assistance in a drive for membership, in order to make 1936 a banner year for the Society.

The Officials and Directors have given much time and thought in their endeavour to make the premium list as attractive as possible, which I am sure, will be appreciated.

As in the past, the Society will co-operate with the Welfare Board of the City in connection with the operation of Relief Gardens and will encourage to its utmost, the advantage derived by the unemployed in the cultivation of garden plots which proved a success in former years.

It is the intention of the Society to hold five shows, namely: Winter Flower Show, Tulip, Peony, Rose, and Autumn show, at which most acceptable prizes will be offered, and it is desired that as many members as possible will compete.

If suggestions contained in this message are followed, I have no hesitancy in predicting the year 1936 will be for the Ottawa Horticultural Society, one of the most successful in its history.

HENRY E. SEALE,

President.
