President's Message - 1937

Yearbook 1937 page 4

By: Henry E. Searle print friendly version

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

With the beginning of 1937 Ottawa enters its 44th year of organized horticultural effort with renewed energy. Through the enthusiastic and untiring work of the Officers and Directors during the past year I am pleased to report 1936 one of the most successful in our Society's history.

The standard of bloom exhibited at all five shows held during the year was of the highest quality and it was most gratifying to note a large increase in exhibitors and public attendance.

In 1936 His Excellency the Governor General kindly donated a sterling silver trophy for annual competition in the tulip show and this year our thanks are due His Worship Mayor Lewis for a beautiful silver cup for the open class of the Peony Exhibit.

The Directors have plans well under way for larger and more attractive- shows for 1937. The prize list has been revised and enlarged with many suitable special prizes added.

Our membership showed a gain of 220 members over 1935. With this most encouraging increase why cannot we make 1937 bigger and better? I feel safe in stating that there is not a Horticultural member who does not know one or more flower loving friends who are not Members of our Society. Will you not assist our Membership Committee in their campaign by seeing that your friends join with us in our effort to better our shows, increase our membership, and improve on the number and the quality of the flowers grown in our garden?

Ottawa Horticultural Society welcomes you as a member and competitor.

HENRY E. SEALE,

President.
