The President's Message 1973

In 1972 we celebrated our 80th year as a society and I should like to take this opportunity to thank all the officers and members who gave so freely of their time, energy, knowledge and talents in helping to make our 80th birthday so successful.

Three highlights come to mind for 1972:

First-the garden competition was well organized and a great success. It helped us to become better known throughout the city and I hope the good work will continue.

Secondly-Our fall show, with City View as co-hosts, was held on the main lawn of the Central 'Experimental Farm during late August. It was an unqualified success, so much so, that we are planning it as a two-day show this year. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Thirdly-We were asked to operate a horticultural booth at the Winter Fair held in the Civic Centre last October. It proved a challenge, a lot of hard work for our members and a great success with the public.

An interesting, and full programme has been initiated this year and I look forward to seeing you at these meetings. Also I would urge you to become personally involved by offering suggestions. by participating in one of the committees or shows and by bringing your friends so that they may see the many advantages to be gained by membership.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome the Board of Directors for 1973. I am sure that with their leadership and cooperation of our members, all of our objectives will be met.

In closing, the executive joins me in wishing you all good gardening, good health and a very happy 1973.
