President's Message - 1975 Yearbook 1975 page 1 By: Trevor J. Cole print friendly versionOHS Yearbook 1975 The President's Message In these difficult times, with inflation going sky-high, everyone suffers. While your society directors try to keep expenses down, it is a fact of life at the moment that costs are climbing. Every time we send out a newsletter the cost has increased, and it is now approach $100 each time. At two dollars a year your society membership is a bargain but just how long we can maintain it at this rate is uncertain. This brings me to what I want to say. Please renew your membership early. If you have not already done so for this year, then put the year book down now, and mail a cheque to the address at the bottom of the next column. If for some reason you decide you no longer wish to be a member, please call any of the society's officers and let them know, so we can take your name off the mailing list. The society is now registered as a Charitable Organization so if you would care to make a donation over and above your membership fee, you will be sent a special receipt which you can use for income tax deduction. Another way you can help is by volunteering your services. Every flower show entails a great deal of work both the evening before and immediately after the show. This work is usually done by the same few stalwarts who, quite frankly, are getting tired of being Joe. If you could spare an hour to help, we would be delighted to see you. Just turn up at the show of your choice at 7:30 p.m. on the evening before the show, or at closing time on show day. We will find a job for you. Turning to more pleasant matters, 1974 proved to be a successful year, with good attendance at the meetings and some first class exhibits in the shows. In particular I was very gratified to find that Clarence Brown had succeeded where I had failed, and had managed to persuade the other societies in District 2 to support the Fall Show. With full tents from Ottawa and City ViewNepean, as well as good weather, the weekend was a great success and the several thousand visitors made it all worthwhile. I would be remiss if I didn't thank my Board of Directors for the splendid co-operation they have given during the past year. and to all the other members who have helped in many ways I would like to say a collective THANK YOU.
