Yearbook 1995 page 6

print friendly version

The Master Gardeners' organization is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in concert with the Ontario Horticultural Association. The Ottawa-Carleton group is sponsored by the O.H.S. and provides home gardening advice to the people of Carleton County.

In 1994 its 24 members provided over 1,000 hours of community service, answered nearly 2,500 enquiries and undertook 46 speaking engagements. The Master Gardeners' Hot Line, 828-5264, is operated every Tuesday and Thursday, from 2-4 p.m.

Activities in 1994 included:

  • Sunday Clinics in the Ornamental Gardens of the Central Experimental Farm, from 2 to 4 p.m., from April to October, weather permitting;
  • Saturday Clinics at the Byward Market, Parkdale Market and at the Carp and Metcalfe Farmers' Markets;
  • A series of lectures to Friends of the Farm;
  • Invited lectures and information tables at community events including those arranged by horticultural, lighthouse, church and recreation groups.
